Millie Brown
Rainbow Body
Curator: Wojtek Piotr Onak
Millie Brown performance presented by The Marina Abramovic Institute - „Rainbow Body” an immersive performance installation.
Rainbow Body’s seen the performance artist Millie Brown suspended in the air by ropes attaching to the inside of the Stary Browar in Poznan Brewery. Dangling from her limbs and body hundreds of strands of rainbow crystal prisms casting light from above and creating a spectrum across everything that falls below. Hundreds of rainbows will be cast on the floors, walls and ceiling of the performance space, immersing the Artist and spectators in rainbow light.
Viewing the body as a vessel for spiritual practice, Brown pushes physical and mental boundaries to reach a state of enlightenment from which creative expression and healing derives. This installation performance piece draws on Tibetan Buddhist theology, Rainbow Body is the phenomenon of viewing spiritual transcendence from a third person perspective in which the body is seen to turn in to rainbow light.
A continuation in the form of performance from Brown’s latest solo show ‘Rainbow Body’ featuring the arist’s physical artworks and paintings; this living piece will be an fully immersive and visually captivating work of performance art.
Rainbow Body will encourage the audience to interact with the work allowing them to walk below the suspended artist and the dancing rainbows created by the crystal prisms during this 5 day performance in which the artist will embody the phenomenon of spiritual ascendance, morphing into rainbow light.
In the series of performances including ‘Suspended by Optimism’ which saw the artist suspend herself using giant helium balloons during 6 hour installation performance as part of the annual ‘Celebration of women in Art’ gala honoring the Brooklyn Museum and Elizabeth A. Sackler’s Center for feminist art during Art Basel Miami Beach 2014.
