Noriaki

The Safe Is Behind The Painting

Noriaki is often called “the Polish Banksy”. He is the creator of the Watcher – one-eyed character – a hero of his street art paintings and installations.

Noriaki’s exhibition at the Courtyard Gallery presented a different side of his artistic explorations with a wide selection of his canvas pieces. The dynamic of Noriaki’s paintings is rooted in street art. The canvases are full of creative energy, marked by the pace of street art improvisation. There are moving figures emerging from the forms presented on the canvases, but the painting itself seems to be a living - and moving - trace of the artist's gesture. Noriaki also weaved "side effects" of the creative process into the subsequent chapters of the exhibition. A painter's palette turned into a painting, the "Tower of Babel" built of wooden wedges covered with paints, a "bouquet" of brushes - these artifacts took the viewers behind the scenes of creation, "behind the painting" - as the title suggests
